Day 1 Journal: Welcome to the United States

Photos | Introduction

The students, teachers, and government officials arrived in San Francisco, greeted by their American hosts, Mr. Christopher Lin, general manager for United Airlines, and city officials from the San Francisco mayor's office.

The group loaded into a motorhome and headed out to Monterey, California. Along the way, they stopped at Santa Cruz to see this famous beach. Another stop was at local fruit stand where the Chinese were introduced to artichokes and avacados, two unique vegetables native to California.

Dinner was served at Fisherman's Wharf in downtown Monterey, a quaint area with restaurants and little shops. Official greetings and toasts were shared between the Chinese guests and their American hosts.
