U.S./China Environmental Education Exchange

Day 11: Washington D.C.

Day 11 D.C. Photos | Introduction to Exchange

The morning started down at the White House with the first meeting at the GLOBE Program office. GLOBE is a environmental science and technology program in over 8000 schools in 93 coutries, including China.

Just down the street is the White House where the group enjoyed a tour. After many pictures for scrapbooks, they were treated to a delicious Chinese lunch.

The afternoon was hosted by Dr. Judith Garcia, a leader in America for distance learning technology. The first stop was the Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology. This is a magnet school for teenagers that excel in science and technology. The group was allowed to sit in on a few classes to see lessons and classrooms in action.

Next was a tour of the Chapel Square Center, which develops and produces distance learning courses plus video-based and computer-supported enrichment programming for students. There are recording studios for recording live and taped courses. They also offer facilities for teachers to create their own multimedia teaching materials.
