Day 6: Photos: Shambala Game Preserve

Day 6 Shambala Journal | Introduction to Exchange

The Shambala reserve has an average of 60 big cats in residence.

Tippy took the group on a personal tour of the animal habitats.

This is the liger -- a cross between a lion and a tiger.

If the father is a lion and the mother is a tiger, the offspring is called a "ligon". The opposite is a "tigon".

This tiger was raised in Las Vegas to be movie stars, but he had other ideas.

This lion was found walking down the street in a Midwestern town, probably a pet let loose.

"Pepper" is the oldest cat at 24 years old.

"Subira" is a cheetah with only 3 legs, a birth defect.

These chervals were sold as house pets.

Although beautiful, they do not make good pets. Once they start ripping apart furniture... and then people... they need a new home, which in this case, was Shambala.

"Kermit" is a jungle cat. He looks and acts just like a large kitty cat, but he still does not make a good pet.

Dean Paschall goes face to face with the snow leopard. Snow leopards normally live in the Himalayas, but this one came from a zoo.

The group poses with Tippy at the Africa tent.

The students gave Tippy a "thank you" gift from China.
