Day 7: Yosemite Journal

Day 7 Yosemite Photos | Introduction to Exchange

First stop before entering Yosemite was at Mono Lake. This area used to be the largest breeding ground for shorebirds in the United States but the California aquaduct system nearly destroyed it.

The group headed into Yosemite over Tioga Pass to Tuolumne Meadows. After hiking through the meadows and visiting Soda Springs, there was a picnic lunch at picturesque Tenaya Lake.

Dean Paschall, the executive director for GEA-China, was a ranger at Yosemite for 10 years. He gave a geology lesson on the origins of Yosemite, and overview of wild bear management, as well as the story of John Muir and the history of the National Park Service at Olmsted Point.

The tree pictured here is the Silver Leafed Manzanita, which comes from China.
