Workshop, April 2000
Introduction
GEA - China offered their second Chinese teacher training workshop April 15-17,
2000. More than 60 teachers from 51 schools in Beijing participated in
the training. The purpose of the workshop was to introduce two more Environmental
Action books (Energy and Waste) and present cooperative learning techniques
to the Chinese teachers.
The workshop began with introductions of GEA - China members and Chinese officials.
Ms. Laura Utley, Chairperson of GCC and Co-Chair of GEA - China, reviewed the
history of GEA - China and how she became involved in Chinese environmental issues.
Dr. Brad Smith, Dean of Environmental Studies at Huxley College, announced
a Chinese-U.S. teacher exchange, a new University-level environmental
action textbook, and he is adding a Chinese volume to his book, Environmental
Science: A Study of lnterrelationships. Mr. Wang Weizhong, Director
General of Agenda 21 and Mr. Zhao Yongping, the Deputy Director-General
for the Beijing Environmental Protection Bureau also spoke.
