Teacher Workshop, April 2000
School PostersSchools that have been trained and have been participating in the GEA - China program presented their activities over the past year. One school has over 200 students involved in water and energy conservation. Their studies have found water waste in tea thermoses and at car washes. They have also found pollution in the nearby river. Reports from their findings have received media attention, and one group is participating in an international competition in the United States in May 2000. Other schools have visited water treatment plants, power plants, and sewage treatment plants. After performing water and energy surveys of their school, the principals have enacted many of their suggestions. The students will survey their home and write letters of recommendations to their parents on how to conserve energy and water. Many schools have won competitions and gotten media attention through newspapers, magazines, and radio for their reports. The teachers talked highly about the books -- about how different they are and how the students get to participate in the teaching process. Students significantly increase their knowledge and understanding of water and energy conservation issues. Many teachers have used the teaching techniques in other subject areas. Below is one of the posters that the schools made to show their GEA-China activities. There are 15 in all!
